♥Warm Tone Eyeshadows♥ Part 1

As a teacher, you know I love summers! Especially since we recently welcomed our 4th child, and 1st son, just a few weeks ago! Summer time also means that I have time to blog! I miss it a lot and am going to try to start posting a lot more content here.  If you have any requests, please let me know in the comments below!

Let's get to it! Warm tone shadows, which are my favorite year round if I'm being honest.  Warm colors have been my hands down favorite for years.  So this week I'll be posting each day one of my favorite warm tone/summer palettes! Here's the first one!

This is my smaller Sephora Zpalette. (Side note: I will not be purchasing anymore Z palettes due to their founder's recent comments on Instagram. Google it if you want the disgusting details.) You can see that some of the colors look similiar, but their finishes are different. Any "true makeup lover" will tell you that they are different!

The swatches on the right are with flash and the ones on the left are without flash.  I feel like the flash really washes out the picture.   I can make so many looks with the palette and I have a lot of fun trading out pans with my other Z palletes to create my perfect custom palette!

Somehow I forgot to swatch MUG Poppy--but it's amazing! You can get the color in the pan on your eye or use less for a lighter wash of the color.  The MUG eyeshadows were hands down were the most creamy to the touch with a few exceptions.  Corrupt, and Cherry Cola aren't as creamy as the other MUG shadows, but they are still very pigmented and blend well.  They just take a little more product to be fully pigmented.

My MAC shadows in here are getting pretty old at this point and I am trying to use them up this year.  I have others in another palette that I'm also trying to get through. I had to swatch Vanilla several times to get it to show up in the swatch.

My Urban Decay shadow is also getting pretty old too.  I had to swatch it several times to get it to show up also.  It's a beautiful color, but I won't be repurchasing it.  Same goes for the MAC shadows too. I just don't think the quality is that good compared to what else is available on the market today.  Makeup Geek shadows are amazing! I would also like to try the Colour Pop pressed shadows too.  And I still have yet to try any Coastal Scents Hot Pots, which I've heard you can get for .99 on sale!  If you have any that you would recommend, let me know in the comments.

Urban Decay SMOKED Review/Swatches

Urban Decay hands down makes my favorite eye shadows. So when I heard this was coming out I knew I had to get my hands on it. I got this palette when it first hit the Urban Decay website and I just love it! I find it to be very versatile with a great range of colors and finishes.

From left to right:
Top row: kinky, freestyle, mushroom, backdoor, blackout
Bottom row: barlust, rockstar, evidence, loaded, asphalt

Kinky: A creamy white matte finish, a bit chalky for my taste, but I can still make it work for an excellent highlight

Freestyle: A peachy-cream matte finish, still a bit chalky but smoother than kinky. This is very close to the color of my skin, so it's great when I want something more low key or something to wear when I want to feature a bold lip/cheek instead.

Mushroom: Definitely my favorite color in the palette. It's a beautiful metallic taupe that pulls more gray. I love this for the lid for a more dramatic eye.

Backdoor: A great dark matte brown. Perfect for smudging in the outer-v area! It is not chalky at all!

Blackout: A fantastic matte black that's also not chalky! Yay! A lot of other matte blacks throw in gold or other colored sparkles, but not this one. This is perfect for an ultra dramatic eye or as liner.

Barlust: A shimmery red toned brown.

Rockstar: Deep smokey purple with subtle red undertones.

Evidence: I found this to be the least pigmented and smooth of the shimmery colors. It's a medium dark navy blue with a metallic finish.

Loaded: Deep almost blacked teal, highly pigmented.

Asphalt: Deep gunmetal metallic with slight teal and silver shimmer.

__________________________________________________________

Pros: Extremely pigmented
Wide range of colors for a variety of looks
                       Mattes, shimmers, metallics
Compact packaging that is travel friendly

                                                           Cons: None for me!
But I realize the price tag of $49 may be something
         for some to consider.

ELF GETS NAKED?

Some people have been saying that the ELF BeautyBook Neutral Eye Edition is a dupe for the infamous Urban Decay NAKED Palette. So I thought I'd show you side by side swatches to see if it's really true.

VS

So check out the colors overall in the pan first....

ELF Palette

Urban Decay Palette

Ok, so far, yes...they look pretty similar. But now let's swatch them...

As you can see, the UD shadow is a lot more pigmented, but the ELF shadow is still extremely similar.

Same thing here....

Now here you can see this is a different color completely. They are both soft browns, but the ELF is lacking that slightly redish undertone that the UD shadow has.

The ELF shadow is lacking the glitter that the UD shadow has--your opinion if that is good or bad. I don't mind the glitter. But otherwise, this color is very similar.

Very similar color, but I really had to build up the ELF to get it close to one swipe of the UD.

The ELF shadow has more orange in it here. And again, the UD shadow is more much pigmented.

The ELF shadow doesn't have the bronzed undertone that the UD shadow has here.

The ELF shadow doesn't even come close in my opinion. I had to really pack it on it get this color to show up .

Color is a bit similar, but you just can't compare these as far as sheen goes! Look how the UD ones just glow and they ELF fall flat.

Again, this color is just way off for me. The ELF shade has so much red in it whereas the UD shade is just a beautiful dark brown.

Again, no comparison here. Period.

I feel like these are pretty similar though. The UD is just a tad darker.

Overall opinion:

If you can't/don't want to shell out the bucks for NAKED, this is an alright alternative.

The ELF Shadows don't have the creamy texture or color payoff that UD has, but what else can you expect for a buck?

When the day comes that I finally go through my NAKED palette....I will probably not turn to the ELF palette, but will instead re-purchase NAKED.

Have you checked out my drug store favorites on youtube?

10 MUST HAVES FOR SUMMER 2010

Hello lovelies! These are my 10 "Must haves" for Summer 2010!

Urban Decay Summer of Love Palette: The colors in this are so pigmented and smooth! I love them! You can create a really smokey look with these hot summer shades! This comes with the eye priming potion in Sin and also a 24/7 liner in Bourbon.

Benefit Highbeam- The perfect highlight in my opinion! I really have to get to Sephora to get the full size!

Hana Shine Shield- This makes my hair so smooth and shiny! I love it. Use to make your hair shine when you wear your natural texture, curl, or flat iron!

AVON Smooth Minerals Blush in Radiance- I have really been loving this lately. There is no shimmer to this, just gorgeous color! It doesn't make my dry skin look dryer and it lasts all day with primer.

AVON Smooth Minerals Lipstick in Apricot Glow- I know coral is the big color for this summer, but if you are a fair skinned gal like myself that finds it hard to tan, this is a great option for you! I especially love this color on blue eyed babes! This is super smooth and you can wear lightly or build to make a bolder lip.

Sedona Lace 12 piece brush set in baby pink- I adore these brushes! If you want to read a full review (and how they compare to the Internet sensation Sigma), click here! These will not break your summer budget and apply makeup flawlessly!

MAC Fix +- Just a spritz of fix plus and your face will feel so refreshed! I don't know that it really does anything to make my makeup last any long, but it feels so good and also takes away any powder look I may get. It feels very moisturizing on my dry skin.

AVON Reversalist Day Cream with SPF 25- I love this moisturizer! Not only does it have SPF 25, it helps repair fine lines and helps prevent new ones! Yeah! Though I prefer products to be in a bottle with pump for hygiene, this is still my favorite!

Corioliss 1" Classic Pro styling iron- This is a new toy of mine and I know I will be getting so much use out of this this summer! My hair tends to get big & frizzy during hot, humid months and this will keep my looking smooth & shiny! I'm most impressed that my hair will stay straight until I wash it!! Even after I put my hair in a ponytail for hours, when I take it down, it's still pin straight! Though I've yet to master it, you can also do curls and flips with this as well!

Cover Girl Waterproof  Last Blast Mascaras in black- I've got to go with my two favorites! Last Blast Length and Last Blast Volume. I use these two every day and get incredible lashes! They are so long and thick, people ofen ask me if I am wear false eyelashes! They don't smudge, so it's perfect for a hot summer!

Please visit my blog to enter my "Sedona Lace your Face" makeup contest! It is open internationally and the winner will recieve their very own Sedona Lace 12 pc baby pink brushes!

URBAN DECAY SUMMER OF LOVE PALETTE

Ok, so I know I just gave away an incredible Urban Decay palette because I said I had too much already--and I do--and I love to spoil my followers! But I really do love these colors and had to grab this palette up! I am not a fan of Flash, but only because it's just too bold for me. I also think it would look crazy with my blue eyes--but perhaps I will play with it anyway. I adore Maui Wowie, Chopper, and Smog! They are gorgeous! Be ready for some shimmer with this palette! It also comes with a small 24/7 liner (which are so creamy and smooth!) in Bourbon and also a small Primer Potion in Sin--which I love!

How cute is this packaging?
This picture doesn't even do this palette justice! The colors are so pretty and vibrant! They blend so well and really stay on ALL DAY when you use the primer. I have received so many compliments when wearing this palette. If you don't have any Urban Decay shadows, this is a great one to get!!

URBAN DECAY PRIMER POTION

I think this is probably the most popular eye primer on the market today. So of course I wanted to try it to see what the fuss was all about. I have to say, I was completely impressed with the results that I got. This has made every single kind of eye shadow I have applied, cheap to high end, stay put ALL day long! Your eye makeup will not budge until you decide. Is this worth the $22? I say "Yes!!"

The texture is really smooth and for me at least, the color is really close to my skin tone. I am not sure what it does for people with lighter/darker skin tones, though my guess is it just melts into their skin undectable. This really evened out my darkened eye lids. I think the packaging is reallly cute though I would prefer a sqeezable tube, like Two Faced Eye shadow insurance, so I know I am getting all the product out. I did see another guru who suggested cutting it open when you think you are almost out and scooping out what's left into pots! What a great idea! When I am at that point, I will try that!
